FAQ & limitations
Quick summary
- Payment and shipping — hide, rename, or reorder payment methods and delivery/shipping options at checkout.
- Condition limits — each rule set supports a focused list (about 19–26 conditions for hide sets, 25 for tier-based rename/reorder) because of Shopify's checkout function query budget.
- Custom keys — metafield, cart attribute, line property, and custom time window conditions may need an app update before new keys work at checkout.
- Free plan — 1 hide rule on live stores; rename and reorder need Growth or higher.
Platform limitations
- Does this app rename or hide shipping and delivery options?
Yes. Shipping and Payment Rules supports payment methods and shipping/delivery options. On Create rule, choose Shipping methods, then Hide, Re-order, or Rename. Carrier names are prepended automatically when renaming shipping labels.
- Why does each rule set show a different list of conditions?
Shopify limits how much cart and buyer data a single checkout function can read (about 30 complexity points per function). We split conditions across multiple checkout functions so each rule stays within those limits—typically 19–26 conditions for hide rules, and about 25 for rename/reorder. Search and categories on Create rule surface the conditions you need; create additional rules if you need more combinations.
- Do metafield, cart attribute, line property, or time window conditions work immediately?
These conditions use custom namespace/key or time ranges that must be registered in the app's checkout function code. When you save a rule, the key is stored with your configuration right away. If checkout does not reflect the rule, the key may not yet be included in the live function build—contact hello@11studio.agency and we can publish an app update to register it. Date/time and preset customer-tag conditions follow the same registration model.
- What can I do on the Free plan?
Live stores without a paid subscription get 1 hide rule (payment or shipping) and hide-only actions. Plan limits count payment and shipping rules together. Rename and reorder require Growth ($6.99/month) or higher. Development stores and Shopify Plus sandboxes get expanded limits automatically.
- Does this work with Shop Pay?
Payment customizations have limited effect in the accelerated Shop Pay flow. Test your rules in the standard checkout as well.
- Can I hide credit card methods on a standard US or Canada store?
On stores that are not on Shopify Plus, Shopify restricts customization of native credit card payment methods. Test with manual methods such as Cash on Delivery or other third-party gateways.
- Do customer tag conditions work for guest checkout?
No. Customer tags only apply when the buyer is logged in. Only preset tags compiled into the checkout function are supported (for example wholesale, vip, b2b)—not arbitrary tags added later without an app update.
- Why is my collection condition not matching?
Collection rules resolve collection membership when you save the rule. The cart must contain a product from that collection. If you recently changed collection membership, edit and re-save the rule.
- I have other payment customization apps—can they conflict?
Yes. Shopify allows multiple payment customizations. Only one should normally be active per store. Use Settings in the app to review other customizations and remove leftovers from old apps or scripts.
How to use the app
- How do I hide a payment method?
Open Rules → Create rule → choose Payment methods → Hide. Add conditions (search or browse categories), then Continue to pick which payment methods to hide and save. The rule syncs to checkout automatically.
- How do I rename or reorder payment methods?
On Create rule, choose Payment methods, then Re-order or Rename. Rename and reorder require the Growth plan or higher. For rename, enter the label buyers should see; Pro supports different labels per buyer language.
- How do I combine conditions with AND or OR?
In the rule builder, add multiple condition rows. Use the AND/OR toggle between the first two rows to choose Match all (every condition must pass) or Match any (at least one condition must pass).
- How do I test whether a rule works?
Use Test rules in the app for step-by-step hints per active rule. Then open your storefront, build a cart that satisfies the conditions, and proceed to checkout. Payment method changes appear on the payment step—not on the cart page.
- How do I find the right condition?
On Create rule, use Recommended for context-aware suggestions, browse categories (Location, Customer, Cart, and more), or search with everyday terms like country, cart total, or B2B. Templates can also pre-fill common setups.
- What happens when I save a rule?
The app writes your rule configuration to Shopify payment customizations and enables the matching checkout function. No theme edits are required. Draft rules are stored but not applied at checkout until you activate them.
Troubleshooting
- My rule saved but nothing changed at checkout
Check that the rule is enabled, your plan allows the action, the cart matches every condition (or any, if you chose OR), and the payment method name matches what checkout displays. Verify you are not only testing Shop Pay. For US/CA non-Plus stores, card methods may not be customizable.
- The payment method name does not match
Use contains matching with a distinctive fragment of the label (for example Cash on Delivery). Names can differ slightly by market or translation.
- I reached my rule limit
Upgrade on the Plan page. Limits count payment and shipping rules together: Starter allows 5, Growth 15, Pro 25. Delete or disable unused rules to free slots on your current plan.
- I uninstalled and reinstalled — where are my rules?
Uninstall clears the app database. If your checkout customizations are still on Shopify, open the dashboard and use Restore from Shopify to import rules back from the app metafields. If Shopify already removed those customizations, recreate the rules.
